Central Coast Career Readiness Consortium - National Career Readiness Certificate Program WorkKeys) Presentation
On September 17, 2010 at the South Central Regional Consortium meeting, Samanth Harrison and Mary Ann Leffel of the Monterery County Business Council made a presentation on the efforts in the Central Region to bring the WorkKeys National Career Readiness Certificate to regional businesses. They have established a Central Coast Career Readiness Consortium and presented an overview of the WorkKeys assessments and associated WIN training to assist individuals in raising their assessments scores, and shared their business model in making it work in the Central Region.

THE FUTUE IS NOW: TEACHING AND LEARNING Workshop Presentations
This was a half day workshop held at the Pierpont Inn in Ventura and sponsored by the South Central Regional Consortium (SCRC)hosted at Ventura College. There were 65 people in attendance from local and regional high schools, community colleges, adult education, school boards, and the Workforce Investment Boards. Futurist Nathalie Gosset, Head of Business Development and Marketing at the USC Alfred Mann Institute provided the keynote address entitled “Jobs of the Future”. It was a unique look into the future of education and the labor market over the next twenty years. Ms. Gosset spoke of the jobs that do not exist yet but will require workers within the next five years and beyond. She explained the skills that will be required to succeed in jobs of the future, the types of courses that should be developed today in preparation for the new job wave and the research necessary to support the economic development for incumbent workers to realign their skills with impending trends.
The second part of the workshop was a presentation by Guy Smith, Dean, and Jim Kiggens, Director of the Multimedia & Entertainment Initiative at Santa Barbara City College. Their presentation, called “Beam Me Up Scotty: Designing a Future With Digits”, explored the technology trends and developments that promise to change the way we work and play, communicate and commune, interact and inform. For the last several years they have been a huge hit in provided a technology trend update to the South Central Regional Consortium, and we wanted others to hear this always fascinating presentation.
